Cow Cubicle Mounting Options
This blog will walk you through your cow cubicle mounting options. The Super Loop/ Cantilever Cow Cubicles are the most popular cubicles on the market. This type of cubicle has been designed, tested and proven to work over the years. It is manufactured in heavy wall 60mm steel tube. The design provides for superior comfort for all cow sizes while properly indexing the cow to lie squarely on the bed reducing soiling and accidental teat damage to a neighbouring cow. The Lifetime Value of our cubicle is unmatched in the market.
Quality
Our cubicles are manufactured out of 3.65mm heavy-wall 60mm galvanised pipe. The German-manufactured pipe is what gives the cubicle its longevity. It is a more expensive raw material, but the quality is unmatched. We have tested a galvanised pipe from all over the world. We have found that cubicles made from cheaper or lighter pipe result in hairline cracks and flaking when put through the manufacturing process. The lifetime value and quality just do not compare to the European-manufactured pipe. Our cubicles will stand the test of time and cattle with up to two or three times the life span of some cubicle options out there.
How Cow Cubicles are manufactured
Indexing
The point of a cubicle first and foremost is to index cows properly. Proper indexing means the cow lies squarely on the bed reducing soiling, accidental teat damage to a neighbouring cow and maximising cow spaces. Some plastic cubicles on the market seem to have gone away or forgotten this resulting in damage to teats, loss of cow spaces with cows occupying 1 and a half or 2 spaces which also results in more beds to be cleaned.
Comfort
Not forgetting comfort, most of a cow’s comfort comes from the mat or mattress they lay on and we have several options of Huber Mat and Mattress. This continuous roll is made in Erding in Germany. We cut the roll to your required length to ensure the minimum of joinings on your bed. It is made from 100% new tire compound the only mat on the market that is made in this way. This means it is not recycled rubber which is being reheated. It is also the reason it doesn’t crack, break down or contain any carcinogenic materials. Over 120,000 Irish cows are currently lying on Huber Technik comfort roll since we started distributing the product. We also have our Rubicle, our standard super loop cubicle wrapped in rubber for added comfort with all the qualities of our standard cubicle. (Pictured Below)
This is a super-loop cubicle design with a soft-touch cover protecting the steel to provide your cow’s extra comfort while housed. This will encourage cows to spend more time lying on the cubicle bed which will, in turn, get the cow to produce more milk and increase profitability.
What are your Cubicle mounting options?
We have several options to mount our cow cubicles as pictured below
We use the post and rail system on our head to head cubicles. The cubicles are stood with a 76mm post or tie into an RSJ every second space. Our unique cubicle clamps add strength when linking our 60mm pipe on to our posts and cubicles.
When installing head to head cubicles the cubicle pipe is offset from the centre. Many people think the centre is the uprights but in fact, the horizontal pipe is the true centre for the cubicles. This needs to be accounted for when setting the beds or with the cubicles. (Example 6’6ft one side and 6’9ft cubicles the other)
The post and rail single or head to head system allows for adjustment up or down the row providing for superior comfort for all cow sizes while properly indexing the cow to lie squarely on the bed reducing soiling and accidental teat damage to a neighbouring cow.
Where a wall is not good enough to hold cubicles, we use the post and rail system. A 76mm post is placed every second space with 60mm cubicle pipe all tied in with your unique cubicle clamps for added strength. This free-standing system is perfect for this scenario, maximising strength, and durability.
The cubicle pipe is mounted to the wall using our channel brackets in a fixed position. This means the cubicle cannot be adjusted up or down the row like some of our other mounting options. The design provides for superior comfort for all cow sizes while properly indexing the cow to lie squarely on the bed reducing soiling and accidental teat damage to a neighbouring cow. This design only works well with good wall preferably mass concrete.
The cubicle pipe is mounted to the wall using our unique Z-rail brackets and 60mm cubicle pipe. This means the cubicle can be adjusted up or down the row to suit.
This design provides for flexibility for all cow sizes while properly indexing the cow to lie squarely on the bed reducing soiling and accidental teat damage to a neighbouring cow. This design only works well with good wall preferably mass concrete.

“Good facilities allow farmers to expand production and incomes and add to the asset value of the farm. They also lead to a better quality of life for the farm family by reducing the workload and the drudgery. In many cases, particularly on dairy farms, buildings pay for themselves over a 7-10 year period. This is especially true when capital grant and tax savings are available.”
